Many people confuse the functions of cardiovascular exercise and muscular-skeletal exercise and worse yet think that they perform the same function. One of the best ways to remain healthy is to do some type of exercise on a regular basis but a combination of different activities is the key to good health. Your exercise activities should supplement each other and not be repetitive of one another.
While cardiovascular activities strengthen your aerobic system and burn calories muscular-skeletal exercises strengthen your skeletal system and improve joint function. Even though some calories are burned in weight lifting the number is minimal compared to cardiovascular activities. Both are important in improving your quality of life and retarding disease but they each have different outcomes. Remember your body doesn’t remain static. It either improves or degrades. Strive for overall fitness.
